Some users expressed empathy toward Syrians, noting how they were oppressed and mistreated unjustly by other countries, especially Lebanon. Others mentioned that the Syrians welcomed the Lebanese during the war in 2006, yet they have received the opposite treatment in Lebanon.
Some users expressed anger towards a TV host who mocked Syrians. Some Lebanese comedy shows have previously been known to engage in this practice, but users vented their increasing anger over the mistreatment of Syrian refugees as the butt of this type of humor:
Many self-identified Lebanese users expressed hatred toward Syrians, and the sentiment goes deeper than the current refugee crisis in Lebanon:
“Lebanese hatred for the Syrians is not hatred between the states. This is purely sectarian hatred, and that is evident when you see Lebanese people who are residing in in Europe and Germany telling the Syrians in Lebanon to go back to their countries and to leave Lebanon.”
Others argued that the hate between Syrians and Lebanese is not only rooted in sectarian hatred because Lebanese Muslims also dislike their Syrian counterparts.
Some users manifested a lot of hate towards Syrians, stating that they are the worst because they aren’t standing together to support themselves during this war. They are often perceived as inflicting violence against each other.
The Syrians in Lebanon were mostly referred to as refugees or beggars. However, some users also blamed them for the economic crisis in Lebanon claiming they are occupying Lebanese jobs. Some of the users defended Syrians explaining that not only do they work harder, they also accept poor labor conditions and that Lebanese people would not otherwise tolerate.

“Syrian females” were mentioned on several occasions in the discussion regarding adultery and rape incidents in refugee camps in Jordan and Lebanon.
Some users referred to rape incidents attributed to the Syrian army and committed at an earlier date in Lebanon, arguing that Lebanese women had not been victims of rape but had willingly forced themselves on Syrian men because Lebanese men did not satisfy them:
Some users shamed Syrian women claiming that they committed adultery in return for food as well as spreading disease. Others expressed happiness that Syria has been completely destroyed and that Syrians are now homeless and displaced:

The instances of Syrian cities mentioned in this corpus were: Aleppo (54), Damascus (86), Al Ghouta (10), Idlib (26) and Golan heights (15).
Users had positive comments with regard to Damascus and Aleppo; they referred to Syrian products and their uses in many industries worldwide; especially Damascene jasmine and Aleppine roses. Users referred to the history of Syria and its cities; Damascus being the oldest capital in the world (10,000 BC) and Aleppo Castle being built prior to the Egyptian pyramids. Users repeatedly insisted on the universal value of these cities as well as the mention of the most famous Arab poets who originated from there.
Idlib and Ghouta were mostly mentioned during discussions about Muslim extremist groups and their use of these cities as shelters:
Golan Heights, Palestine and Shebaa farms came up on several occasions and users referred to them as lands occupied by Zionists and Israel:
Users shamed Syrians and argued that the Golan Heights were sold to Israel in exchange for keeping the al-Assad family (Hafez and Bashar) in control of Syria:

Users commented on Bashar and his regime’s destruction in Syria, as well as the negative effect felt in Lebanon. They referred to Bashar followers as spies who promote terrorism and conflict in Lebanon.
Some users saw the Civil war in Syria as revenge for Bashar’s actions in Lebanon:

Users often referred to Hafez al-Assad as “the historical spy” and “the leader of thieves”. They called Assad followers Shabiha, a Syrian word that is commonly used to refer to people who commit crimes and violence with impunity because they are protected by the regime.
The Shabiha are known for using armed weapons to intimidate people. The users discussed how the media now promotes this act (Tashbih) in televised drama series.
Users retraced historic timelines to recall the stories about the Levant area, and how it is now sold to mercenaries by Israel, the US, Russia and China.
